This is Dr Cai Wilkinson’s portfolio (under development), where you can find details about her research, teaching and related activities.

Cai is an Associate Professor in International Relations at Deakin University, Australia. She served as Associate Head of School (International) for the School of Humanities and Social Sciences from January 2014 until February 2019, and as Course Director for the Bachelor of International Studies from July 2013 until February 2018.

Formerly a Lecturer in Russian at the University of Birmingham in the UK, Cai’s research focuses on societal security with a particular focus on genders, sexualities and LGBTQ rights.

She has previously published in Security Dialogue, Central Asian Survey, Europe-Asia Studies and Nationalities Papers, as well as writing book chapters on a range of topics including interpretive ethnographic methods, securitization, statebuilding in Central Asia, and LGBT rights in Kyrgyzstan.

Cai is a former Chair of the International Studies Association’s (ISA) LGBTQA Caucus. She has also served on the ISA’s the Long Range Planning Committee, and on Executive Committee of the Feminist Theory and Gender Studies Section as a Member-at-Large, and is currently a member of the ISA’s Research Workshop Grants Committee. In 2019 she also served as Chair of the Charles Taylor Books Award Committee for the Interpretive Methodologies and Methods (IMM) Conference Group.
